Balscadden U8C League Champions & Cup Finalists 2010, A big congratulations to Gary Coscoran and Bryan Morgan for guiding the team to Victory this season.

League Starting Dates

Small Sided Games (except under 7s) - Saturday September 4. The draft schedule has pencilled in round robin cup games from Sep 4 to October 2 inclusive (five weeks), with the league proper beginning on October 9.

11 a-side Games - Sunday September 5

There are no round robin cup games so it's straight in to the league from the start, in a bid to avoid a repeat of the fixture congestion suffered towards the end of last season due to the bad weather mid-Winter. Where possible they have tried to divide each division to ten team groups.

Photo ID

The NDSL are attempting to introduce photo ID for ALL players in the league this season.

They will be sending photographers out on a given night to each club, so each team will be requested to co-operate as fully as possible. Players will also be required to bring a passport or GNIB card (for immigrants) to verify identity and age. They hope to have all photos taken by Christmas.

The idea behind the cards is to establish a record of all players in the league, in an attempt to avoid teams fielding ineligible players (bangers!) in games.  When these cards are fully implemented, each manager will be obliged to have one for every member of his team available for inspection prior to games. The charge for each card will be 2.

Rule Changes

Players registered to a team a lower division will be allowed to play for their club’s higher division team providing he is young enough. In other words. A player registered to an under 13C team could also play for the club’s 13As.

Futsal

The Gormanston Futsal competition is due to be extended this winter—particularly in the under 7s division, with a planned 12 week stint from late November to February. The under 8s and 9s are pencilled in for 6 weeks from before Christmas through January. These are non competitive events. No scoring records are kept, there are no league tables and no prizes. They will be refereed by club members.                    Entry fee will be 10 per team per week.

SFAI Cup

Entries are now being taken for this national cup competition for 11-a-side teams between ages U11 - U16. Please contact Sarah Power ASAP if you are interested in entering a team. Closing date is September 1.

As most are aware between October and November the club organised a number of fundraising drives which brought in much needed funds. A big thankyou goes to all players , families and friends for their support during the following events, Crezz disco, Balbriggan, Balbriggan Churchgate collection, Sponsored Walk, Ardgillan Park. All monies raised will be used to move the club forward and improve player and supporters facilities.

Knockbrack pitch development  Due to the increase in the number of teams lining out for the club and, consequently, the pressure for pitch space, we have recently acquired the use of the old Knockbrack Cricket Club. Ultimately we hope to be able to fit an 11-aside and small sided game pitch here. Thanks mainly to the efforts of Bryan Morgan, we are currently working on developing the facility and hope to have it in use by early Spring. To date this development work has cost in the region of €1,000 euros with more money to be laid out in the future on a car park, 11 a-side goals and fencing (to keep the balls in). For this reason – and for the purposes of pursuing future development opportunities elsewhere - it is extremely important that we continue to increase our fundraising efforts.

Balscadden FC Golf Classic 2011  As part of our continued efforts in this area, the golf classic will take place in Balbriggan Golf Club on Friday, May 27. It is crucial that all members get behind this event. Further details to follow.

Girls/Ladies football  The club is actively seeking to increase the number of girls playing and hope to work towards lining out a girls’ team(s) in the near future.  Space permitting, we hope to set up a social soccer hour in Gormanston College early in the new year and, subject to sufficient interest, aim to expand the project from thereon. Anybody interested in helping to develop and promote girls/ladies football teams in the club please contact any member of the committee.
